You’ve heard it said “The local church is the hope of the world.” This place where God does His work, this local church body, has great significance for what God is doing in our world. Church matters to God and therefore, as people of God’s church, our being a part of church matters, our involvement in the church matters, the church in the community matters, and how we do church together matters.
Not only does church matter as part of God’s great plan, practically speaking, church matters. All of the individual little things; the relationships, the decisions, the language that we use with one another, all kinds of practical pieces together, the matters of the church, these are the things that make a church. It’s not just a theoretical theological idea – it’s a practical everyday decision.
During our series, Church Matters, we will journey through the books of 1st and 2nd Corinthians and look at God’s view of life and of community. God envisions a community where faith, hope and love prosper. The apostle Paul, captured by God’s vision, writes with a heart filled with deep affection for a community of believers living in Corinth. He warns them of the dangers and threats that seek to undermine God’s best. The apostle Paul offers sound counsel and provides direction to help them navigate through a maze of trouble. In 1st and 2nd Corinthians Paul addresses church matters and demonstrates why church matters! His counsel is still very relevant today.
