An Evening of Encouragement & Prayer for Members of the Military, Law Enforcement and First Responders, together with their Families
Dear Bethany Family,
This month our country sets aside Memorial Day to remember the sacrifices of all those who have served to protect us and to extend the cause of freedom around the world. In this season of remembrance, we feel that the Church also has a responsibility to pray for those who continue to serve and sacrifice in these difficult times. With this in mind, we have scheduled a very special event:
An Evening of Encouragement & Prayer for Members of the Military, Law Enforcement and First Responders, together with their Families Sunday, May 20, 2012, 6:00 PM Greenland Campus
Our own Tenley Westbrook will lead us in worship, and we will hear a special word from a local law enforcement officer concerning what these public servants and their families must face on a daily basis. We will end the service with a time of prayer for both these servants and their families. We especially invite anyone who has or knows family members who serve in this way, and we will offer an opportunity to pray for them by name with one of our many prayer partners.
Please consider making time in your busy schedules to attend this important opportunity to care for one another through the grace of prayer.

Angelic Perspective
In my latest Dirk's Corner Blog Post I look at Isaiah 6:2. What were the significance of the "serphim" in Isaiah's vision of God?

A Special Service this Sunday
Dear Bethany Family,
As most of you are aware, our Greenland community witnessed a tragic event Thursday evening. As a community of Christ, we share our deepest sympathy for those who must now grieve their painful loss. In response to this tragedy, I would like to invite you to attend one of our services this Sunday, as we pray for these families and seek God's direction during these difficult times. (Service times and directions are available here.) As we reflect on this painful event, let us remember God's word to us through the Apostle Paul: "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."(2 Corinthians 1:3, 4)
Please join us on Sunday, April 15, for this special service as we minister to our community and to one another.
In His Service,
Dirk

A Running Commentary on Isaiah
Hello, everyone!
For anyone interested, I am compiling something of a running commentary on the book of Isaiah over on my Dirk's Corner blog site. My latest article, High and Exalted
reflects on Isaiah 6:1: "In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple." .

Understanding Forgiveness: An Evening of Encouragement and Prayer
Sunday, March 25, 2011, 6:00-7:30 PM, Greenland Campus
Dear Bethany Family,
In our world of fractured relationships, we all need generous measures of forgiveness. If we fail to extend forgiveness, we become prisoners of our own anger. If we do not receive forgiveness, we are bound by our own guilt and shame. So many of us get stuck somewhere in the middle of this cycle. We can neither extend nor receive forgiveness. If you or someone you know needs to hear the healing message of forgiveness -- and who does not need to hear this message? -- please join us for this inspiring time of reflection, encouragement and prayer.

An Evening of Encouragement and Prayer - Understanding Forgiveness

Evening of Encouragement and Prayer: Facing the Challenges of Single-Parenting
Sunday, February 26, 2012, 6:00 PM, Greenland Campus
Our culture presents many challenges to families of all types, but families led by single parents face more challenges than most. Please come on this special evening to pray with those who must make many parenting decisions on their own. As the family of God, we want to support these single parents as they seek to raise their children in the ways of God. Also, please invite any single parents that you might know to attend this service and experience this time of encouragement together.
Hope to see you there at this very important opportunity to serve our Bethany families!

Dear Men of Bethany:
I am happy to announce that we will be starting our weekly Men's Bible Breakfast on Tuesday mornings, beginning January 10, 2012. The breakfast will run from 6:30 - 7:30 AM at our Greenland Campus. We will enjoy eating and talking together for the first 30 minutes, and then I will offer a challenge from Scripture for the next 30 minutes. We will be done promptly at 7:30 for those who must get to work! To cover food costs, we will ask for a suggested donation of $5 for each session (but, as usual, don't let the cost be a factor ... just tell them you are "Dirk's Guest"). This will be a great time to encourage one another to stay on course spiritually, to be the men that God called us to be.
We will start with a study called, King David: Sinner, Saint and Symbol. How did this humble shepherd rise from obscurity to the heights of history, becoming one of the most discussed and revered leaders of all time? In this biblical walk through the life of David, we will examine his strengths and his challenges, focusing on the way that God worked in his circumstances and decisions. Throughout this story we will see the hand of God establishing a new kingdom that will never end. (Note: this will be a condensed version of the course that I will be teaching at our Mid-Week Program, on Wednesday evenings.)
Please feel free to share this post to anyone you think might be interested in attending. Also, thanks to all of you who responded to my earlier email and volunteered to help in the kitchen on a rotating basis. My able assistant, Pat Fuller, will be reaching out to you soon to arrange a schedule.
Thanks again. See you at Breakfast!

Celebrate Recovery Coming to Raymond!
Celebrate Recovery is a confidential Christ-Centered 12-Step Recovery Program for anyone with a hurt, habit or hang-up. Sometimes in life we hit those hard-to-move obstacles to the abundant life that God promises, and we need the support and accountability of a caring group of other men or women that are working through these same obstacles. Celebrate Recovery provides this much-needed support. For more information on this ministry, you may want to check out our Celebrate Recovery page.
For many years now, Celebrate Recovery has been meeting at our Greenland Campus on Thursday evenings, and now we are pleased to announce that the ministry will be coming to our Raymond Campus. On Monday, November 28, 6:00 PM, we will hold an informational meeting for anyone interested in participating in this ministry. (Please visit our Raymond Campus page for directions.) We certainly look forward to what God will do as He expands His ministry through His willing servants!
